6 Steps to Creating a Simple LinkedIn Strategy

Step-by-step guide to building an effective LinkedIn strategy, from profile optimization to content creation and engagement tactics.

6 Steps to Creating a Simple LinkedIn Strategy

LinkedIn is where this newsletter started.

I built my entire company, The Attention Seeker, on the platform.

And before I even posted my first video on TikTok, I already had 9 staff, all paid for from the business we generated on LinkedIn.

It's a powerful platform for building your professional brand, connecting with your audience, and driving business results.

But without a clear strategy, it's easy to feel lost.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you create a LinkedIn strategy that's effective (and manageable).

Before diving into LinkedIn, get clear on what you want to achieve.

Are you trying to grow your personal brand?

Generate leads for your business?

Build a network in your industry?

Your goals will dictate how you approach content creation, engagement, and outreach.

Knowing who you're speaking to is critical.

What industries they work in.

The roles or job titles they hold.

The challenges they face.

When you know your audience, you can tailor your content and messages to resonate with them.

You can also find them really easily on LinkedIn using the search function. My suggestion is to start connecting with them to artificially grow your audience.

Your LinkedIn profile is your digital first impression. Make sure it's polished and professional:

Headline: Use this to highlight your value proposition, not just your job title.

About section: Share your story and how you help others.

Profile picture: Use a high-quality image that reflects how you want others to see you.

Banner image: Customise this to visually represent your work or brand.

There are more areas to optimise, but honestly, just start here and you'll be fine.

Consistency is key to staying visible on LinkedIn. Aim to post at least 2-3 times per week if not daily, using a mix of:

Thought leadership: Share insights or opinions on industry trends.

Personal stories: Build relatability by sharing your experiences.

Current events: Comment on things happening in the world right now.

Remember, it's better to post regularly than to try to go viral every time.

LinkedIn is a two-way street. Don't just post content.

You need to engage with others, so:

Leave thoughtful comments on posts from your network.

React to content that aligns with your values or expertise.

Reply to all the comments you receive. You asked for them, so at least have the decency to respond.

Building relationships is as important as sharing your own content.

No strategy is perfect right out of the gate. Track your analytics, especially how many views you are getting per post.

Iterate and experiment constantly until you find a winning formula.

I build brands that people can’t ignore. As the founder of The Attention Seeker, I lead a team of wildly talented creatives, strategists, and operators who make businesses famous through organic social. We’ve grown audiences into the millions, helped brands go viral for the right reasons, and turned short-form video into a serious business driver. I’m not here for the corporate theatre. I’m here to make things people actually watch, and to lead in a way that creates space for my team to do their best work. My job is to set the direction, remove the noise, and back my people harder than anyone else ever will. I believe attention is the most valuable currency in the modern economy. Earning it takes guts, clarity, and consistency. Keeping it takes relentless creativity and ruthless relevance.
